Natural Astaxanthin
Astaxanthin: The supplement for aging well
Aging well. It is now an important goal for consumers across the age spectrum, who now realize they need to be working toward healthy aging long before they start experiencing the effects of old age. For many people, this means supporting brain and eye health, promoting cardiovascular function, easing those joint and muscle pains, enhancing their immune system and promoting daily energy. This not only requires a diet high in nutrition and regular exercise, but also a strong daily supplement regimen.
While many supplements tout an anti-aging benefit, astaxanthin is emerging as one of the most important and clinically proven antioxidant supplements, with hundreds of pre-clinical and human clinical trials that demonstrate as many as 10 health benefits for aging well, from immune system modulation to added energy and eye health.*
Princeton Vitamins is pleased introduce its Natural Astaxanthin formula with the clinically-proven ingredient Astazine®, one of the most well-studied astaxanthins and the world’s purest natural astaxanthin. The formula is 100% natural astaxanthin -- a solvent-free extract from Haematococcus pluvialis (H. pluvialis) micraoalgae. Natural astaxanthin-- as opposed to synthetic astaxanthin made from petrochemicals, and other forms--is the only astaxanthin studied for these health benefits. Other forms of astaxanthin behave differently in the body and have not been extensively studied for safety or efficacy.
But what makes astaxanthin a critical nutrient? Astaxanthin is created in nature by microalgae as a survival mechanism that protects it against extreme temperatures and allows it to survive for many years without food or water.[1] H. pluvialis produces the red astaxanthin compound when it is under environmental stress – it is a common food for aquatic creatures like salmon, crab, lobster, shrimp and some other fish, and this gives these creatures their reddish color.[2] Salmon have the highest concentration of astaxanthin, and it is believed that it helps them have the energy to swim upstream to spawn –an amazing feat of energy and endurance.[3]
Astaxanthin can produce many benefits in humans as well. It is one of the most effective, high-quality antioxidants you can take because it:
- protects the entire cell while other antioxidants generally protect one part or the other.
- handles multiple free radicals in our bodies at once, while most other antioxidants only handle one-at-a-time.
- can never become a Pro-Oxidant (which can cause additional oxidation to our cells).
- crosses the blood brain barrier to bring its antioxidant activity and anti-inflammatory properties to help protect the brain and eyes.
- helps prevent photo-aging and improves the skin’s appearance and quality from the inside out.
- bonds with muscle tissue to control oxidation and inflammation, especially in athletes and active people.[4]
Astaxanthin should be also be noted for its immune support properties. In addition to an extensive body of animal, in vitro and human research, a groundbreaking 2010 study has found astaxanthin a strong immune system modulator in healthy humans.[5] The study’s results show five distinct benefits related to immune function from astaxanthin intake, including increasing the total number of anti-body producing B-cells, amplifying natural killer cytotoxic activity, stimulating white blood cell counts, decreasing DNA damage and reducing C-reactive protein, a marker of systemic inflammation in the blood.[6] This means that astaxanthin works through multiple pathways as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant to support cardiovascular health and immune response.[7]*
In all, astaxanthin boasts 600 human clinical trials and pre-clinical studies showing its importance as a strong, high quality antioxidant and safe and natural anti-inflammatory with a key role in overall cellular health as well as supporting healthy aging of essential body systems.*
